Had a "fun" request at former job to bring an API query that was taking ~4m to resolve down to 30s. Perl itself was slow. The algorithm to gen the DB query was slow. The database schema was slow. The algorithm to parse the DB result was slow. Gave up after getting to ~1.5m @nicklockwood/1248981100044615683
