Well, this is unfortunate. Why would SPLIT, a text function, coerce text into numbers, especially when the "number" has leading 0s? This at least should be documented, and there should be an optional flag to let it guess the data type each element support.google.com/docs/thread/15681911/split-function-loses-leading-zeroes-any-workarounds?hl=en

I don't know who needs to hear this, but JOIN and CONCATENATE have a 50,000 character limit in Google Sheets This is the best (non-script) workaround I found stackoverflow.com/a/30092408
