Also, it's important for managers to introspect on whether they did something wrong before deciding their report is in the wrong... like, "not communicating it well enough the last time"

And if the decision is their report did do something wrong: what went wrong, how wrong was it, what contributed to something going wrong; is it something to talk casually about, is it something to actively coach about, do you really need to go to PIP?
